Advancing Kiribati’s Coral Reef Monitoring Through ReefCloud Training

An officer from the Coastal Fisheries Division attended the ReefCloud Regional Workshop in Port Vila, Vanuatu, from 5 to 9 October 2026. Supported by the Australian Government and led by AIMS with Pacific partners, the workshop brought together regional stakeholders to review progress, identify emerging needs and risks, and prioritise future activities guided by the Pacific Coral Reef Action Plan.

Participants learned to upload and organise reef survey images, assess benthic cover, review AI classifications, and manage data for reporting and long-term monitoring. ReefCloud can make photo-quadrat analysis faster and more consistent, reducing work that may take months manually to just days. Thank you to the ReefCloud Project for the invitation and support, and to SPREP and the Vanuatu Fisheries Department for co-hosting.
