The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MFOR) is pleased to highlight the participation of two Competent Authority (CA) officers in the two-week Regional National Competent Authority Training for Fish Inspectors, held at the Peninsula Hotel in Suva, Fiji.
The training brought together Competent Authority officers from across the Pacific, including Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Fiji, providing a valuable platform for regional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the strengthening of technical expertise in fish inspection and seafood safety.
The training focused on enhancing officers’ capacity to conduct inspections and audits, verify compliance with food safety requirements, and ensure the safety and quality of seafood and processed fishery products intended for export to the European Union (EU), other international markets, and domestic consumption.
Through this initiative, MFOR continues to strengthen its national fish inspection system, protect public health, promote consumer confidence in seafood products, and support access to international markets for Kiribati’s fisheries sector.
MFOR sincerely acknowledges the European Union (EU) and the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) Programme for their generous financial support in making this important regional capacity-building initiative possible. Their continued commitment to strengthening fisheries management and sustainable development in the Pacific is greatly appreciated. Together, we are building technical capacity, strengthening regional partnerships, and advancing seafood safety for a healthier and more sustainable Pacific fisheries sector.
