Uniting Communities for Sustainable Ocean Management in Kiribati

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MFOR) held a two-day Ocean Policy Consultation Forum at KPC Nanikaai Maneaba from 27–28 October 2026, bringing together representatives from church groups, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other organizations connected to ocean management and conservation.

The forum provided an important opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the Ocean Policy as it prepares for implementation, share their views, and strengthen collaboration towards protecting and sustainably managing Kiribati’s valuable ocean resources.

With the ocean playing a vital role in Kiribati’s livelihoods, culture, food security, and economic development, the active participation of communities and relevant organizations is essential to ensuring that the policy reflects shared priorities and encourages collective responsibility for our ocean.

MFOR extends its sincere appreciation to all representatives and participating organizations for their valuable time, contributions, and commitment throughout the two-day discussion. Your participation and shared perspectives are important in strengthening collaboration and supporting the successful implementation of the Ocean Policy for the benefit of present and future generations.
