The Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) conducted a Trainer of Trainers (ToT) Training on Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) and Inflatable Life Vests in Brisbane, Australia, from 21–23 July 2026.
The training formed part of the FFA’s ongoing Observer Safety Programme, aimed at strengthening national capacity in the use, management, maintenance, deployment, and training on observer safety equipment. Through practical sessions, participants gained valuable skills to support observer safety and respond effectively to emergencies at sea.
Importantly, the training will enable participants to share their knowledge and provide similar training to observers and relevant personnel at the national level, further strengthening national capacity and helping to save lives at sea.
The Oceanic Fisheries Division (OFD), on behalf of the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MFOR), sincerely thanks the FFA for conducting and funding this important training. OFD also extends its appreciation to the European Union (EU) for its continued support and financial assistance, which enabled an MCS officer from Kiribati to participate.
