The Director of the Coastal Fisheries Division just returned from attending the Pacific Fisheries Leadership Program (PFLP) Intensive Unit, being held in Nadi, Fiji, from 7–11 September 2026.
The PFLP Intensive Unit provides practical leadership approaches and strategic skills to help participants better understand complex challenges, make informed decisions, strengthen teamwork, and lead positive and sustainable change within organizations and communities.
Leadership development is particularly important in the fisheries sector, where effective leadership is needed to support sustainable fisheries management, strengthen partnerships, respond to emerging challenges, and ensure that the voices and needs of coastal communities are considered.
The knowledge and skills gained through this training will strengthen the capacity of fisheries leaders and staff in their work, while also contributing to better communication, community engagement, collaboration and support for sustainable fisheries and livelihoods.
MFOR acknowledges and sincerely thanks The Pacific Community (SPC) for supporting the participation of the Kiribati representative in this important regional leadership training.
