EU-Funded Fisheries Projects Set for 2025 Implementation
A kick off 'maroro' by the MFOR team to start the preparations for the 2025 Annual workplan under the EU Fisheries Sector Support Programme was held last Wednesday 26th of March at the Ocean Family Restaurant. The meeting provides a platform to discuss and outline plans for the 2025 implementation of agreed project activities, reflect on the issues and challenges faced for the 2024 programme. The EU Fisheries Sector support programme is one of the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MFOR) projects geared to achieve key activities to promote the sustainable management of our fisheries and towards achieving and bring benefits to the people of Kiribati through the implementation of these project activities.
For the 2025 programme, the Ministry through its respective divisions will implement programs geared to support livelihood opportunties for local communities such including the operational plans for the mini-hatcheries in Maiana and Nonouti, pilot fish vendor stalls to promote proper fish handling, promoting clean up campaigns, among under the MFOR branding program Tanoabakoa, among other small scale projects.
The Project Coordinator sincerely acknowledges the support towards the EU Sector support with the oustanding achievement in 2024 and continue to extend words of encouragement for greater collaboration can be achieved greater outcomes. A huge thanks to the European Union in the Pacific for its continuous support in strengthening the fisheries sector in Kiribati!
