KMSPCC Members Successfully Complete RPAS 102 Drone Pilot Certification Training

KMSPCC Members Successfully Complete RPAS 102 Drone Pilot Certification Training

Drone Trust, an approved training organisation representative, Mr.Salmen Chand, has successfully completed drone training for relevant KMSPCC committee members. A total of 15 members have completed both the theoretical training and practical assessment, qualifying them as competent drone pilots. The members include: 

 

- 1 representative from Land Management Division for Ministry of Environment, Land and Agriculture Development (LMD-MELAD) 

- 2 representatives from Environment Conservation Division for Ministry of Environment, Land and Agriculture Development (ECD-MELAD) 

- 1 representative from Tourism Authority of Kiribati for Ministry of Tourism, Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives (TAK-MTCIC) 

- 1 representative from Culture and Museum Division for Ministry of Culture and Internal Affairs (CMD-MCIA) 

- 1 representative from Offshore Division for Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (OFD-MFOR) 

- 1 representative from Community Based Fisheries Management unit in Coastal Fisheries Division for MFOR (CBFM/CFD-MFOR) 

- 1 representative from Monitoring, Control and Surveillance unit in Coastal Fisheries Division for MFOR (MCS/CFD-MFOR) 

- 2 representatives from Geoscience Division for Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (GSD-MFOR) 

- 2 representatives from Research and Monitoring Unit (RMU) in Coastal Fisheries Division for MFOR (CFD-MFOR) 

- 3 representatives from Phoenix Island Marine Spatial Planning project within GSD-MFOR 

The Committee and the training organisation also acknowledge and appreciate the continued support from the Civil Aviation Authority of Kiribati (CAAK) for their guidance on national laws in this regard, particularly in reinforcing the importance of prioritising public safety at all times during operations. 

With this certification (RPAS 102), members now have the capacity and skills to collect data more efficiently and capture high-quality, up-to-date aerial imagery to support more accurate decision-making for sustainable ocean management. 

 

The KMSPCC Secretariat extends its sincere appreciation to MFAT for making this 2 weeks training possible, further strengthening collaboration and enhancing the Committee’s overall capacity in this area.
