Tuesday 18 February 2025 marks the workshop's opening on the review of the Kiribati Tuna Management Plan. The Officer In Charge of the Ministry of Fisheries & Ocean Resources (MFOR), Deputy Secretary Mrs. Teue Baikarawa, in her opening remarks, welcomed the visiting team from the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) and the Pacific Community (SPC). She also touched on the significance of the review noting the changes that occurred to the fisheries regime nationally and internationally that need to be reflected in the new plan. Representatives from other divisions of the MFOR are also invited to provide more depth and ensure the comprehensiveness of the plan. The outcome of the work would ensure an updated and more streamlined plan that would guide the activities of the MFOR and divisions. The MFOR acknowledged the support and collaboration from the FFA & SPC on this work as well as the participation of other local stakeholders.
