Officers Enhance Observer Analysis Skills

Officers Enhance Observer Analysis Skills

The FFA Regional Observer Report Incident Analysis Training was held in Brisbane, Australia, from 13 to 17 July 2026. The training brought together Observer Debriefers and Compliance Officers from FFA member countries, including three Kiribati MCS officers from the Oceanic Fisheries Division, comprising two Observer Debriefers and one Compliance Officer.

The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of national Observer Debriefers in analysing observer reports and incidents, particularly those documented through the GEN-3 form, while enhancing compliance monitoring and supporting sustainable fisheries management across FFA member waters.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MFOR), through the Oceanic Fisheries Division, sincerely acknowledges the continued support provided by the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) in strengthening the knowledge, skills, and professional capacity of Kiribati's Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) Officers and Fisheries Observers through training and other capacity-building initiatives.

MFOR also gratefully acknowledges the financial support provided through the European Union (EU) Project, which funded the participation of two Oceanic Fisheries Division (OFD) staff members in the training.
