Tuna Processing Training Builds Local Capacity
Tuna Canning and Value-Added Tuna Processing Training Successfully Completed at RGA Eco Farm
Over the past two weeks, participants from the Coastal Fisheries Division (CFD), Central Pacific Producers Limited (CPPL), and Competent Authority (CA) successfully completed an intensive Tuna Canning and Value-Added Tuna Processing Training held at the RGA Eco Farm.
The training provided both theoretical and practical knowledge on tuna processing, covering the principles and procedures of tuna canning as well as the production of value-added tuna products. Participants gained hands-on experience in processing tuna into tuna sausages and tuna jerky, while also learning the theory behind safe processing, quality control, and product preservation techniques.
This training marks an important milestone as it also served as the official handover of the training program to the Training Unit, with CFD and CPPL facilitating the transition to ensure the sustainability and continued delivery of tuna processing capacity-building activities in the future.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under the UN joint programme (UNJPSAP009UNJ) is working with women organizations in Kiribati to deliver CSA activities.
MFOR acknowledges FAO support to this important initiative to benefit the wider community in Kiribati.
