KMSPCC Conducts Third Island Consultation on Marine Spatial Planning in Onotoa

"Following successful missions to Abaiang and Tamana, the Kiribati Marine Spatial Planning Coordinating Committee (KMSPCC) team conducted its third island visit to Onotoa, from 14 to 21 of October. The Committee comprises officials from the Attorney General’s office, Tourism Authority of Kiribati, Environment and Conservation Division, Culture and Museum Division, and the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources. During the mission, the team held full council meetings, school visits, and village consultations across Onotoa island to introduce marine spatial planning and hear directly from local communities on how they wish to use and protect their marine space, including key fishing grounds, cultural sites and conservation zones. The team gratefully acknowledged the support of the Onotoa Mayor, the MFOR Administration, Committee members and the World Bank through the PROP project in making this mission a success."
